The Brimhall Family of now FOUR! (Part one)

So I figured it was finally time to write this story before I forgot too much of it.

This story starts Sunday October 24th. Jared was sleeping in and I got up to go to the bathroom and clean up a little bit downstairs. When I thought I was done in the bathroom, I suddenly had another gush. I noticed a pink tinge after that one. since I am such an expert on all things related to pregnancy thanks to all the websites I subscribed to, I thought this must be my water breaking. I also know so many stories of women waiting until they have contractions before they go into the hospital after their water breaks, so I decided to not wake up Jared and just go downstairs anyway. I continued to leak small amounts all through out the day. When Jared woke up, he asked how I was feeling and I replied nonchalantly that I thought my water broke earlier but I felt fine. He was a little more startled after that comment but I explained that I hadn't felt any contractions or pains or even discomfort. So we went about our day. Birthday breakfast for my nephew, and we even still went to the Gammage production of Beauty and the Beast with my sister and brother-in-law. (The show was wonderful by the way). I completely felt fine the whole time. I had called my OB's triage line earlier and never got through or a response. After talking to my sister, they said I should still go to the hospital to get checked out. When we dropped them off after the show, we headed to the hospital. We went almost immediately back to triage. They tried finding the boys heartbeats out front but since it was taking so long, they just sent me back anyway since they figured I would be admitted.

Once I got back to the triage room, they started hooking me up. They started running tests. They confirmed my water broke. It took all the nurses to keep up with Jaxson on the fetal heart tone monitors. Each nurse tried for at least 10 minutes but he was just too fast :-) Logan was down in my hips and pelvic bone so as long as I was stretched out he was pretty easy to find. (This became a problem a few days later) They also did 3 tests to confirm if my water broke or not.

The OB came for a consult. All 3 tests came back positive that my water broke. She wasn't happy that I took so long to come in to the hospital. She then proceeded to tell me that I was being admitted and that they were going to try and keep me pregnant. She left us for a couple of minutes to get my room set up. My heart did flips and tears escaped. For a brief moment I felt all the overwhelming feelings that came with realizing that this pregnancy was no longer a normal pregnancy. I told Jared i wasn't ready for my babies to come yet. We weren't prepared. I felt bad that as a mother I might not be able to help them grow and develop inside me for the right amount of time. When the OB came back, the tears stopped and we talked about what will happen next. She said in the morning I would be getting a visit for the perinatalogist(to cover before the babies were born) and the neonatalogist(to cover after the babies were born). She also said that as soon as I got to my room I would be receiving the first of 2 steroid shots to help the boys lungs develop just in case they could not keep me pregnant. These steroids needed 48 hours to take full effect. I had to stay pregnant for a minimum of 48 hours. That meant I was put on Magnesium.
***Side note- Magnesium is a very effective drug however, it has AWFUL side effects. Being on this drug caused the most difficult time in my pregnancy.
Since I didn't get to the hospital until 10 pm, I got to my room after 1am. That meant I got my first steroid shot at 1 am. For me, I have no problem with shots, needles, IVs so when they said they will be giving the shot in the bum I really wasn't to worried. Until the needle went in and the drug was pushed in..... I was not prepared for it to hurt like that. I jumped and cried out. The nurse reminded me not to move. She decided to let me know afterwards that the steroids could burn a little bit.... Understatement. She then let me know that in twenty-four hours I would receive the next shot. Which meant tomorrow at 1 AM I would receive another shot in the other bum cheek. Good times.

To be continued....

Pictures etc.

So I believe that this is a profile picture for just over 27 weeks.... i think. Or just under. It's terrible I can't remember. I just can't believe how big I am. I am 28 weeks today. About 8 more weeks to go. I don't know how I will handle it honestly. Work is already torturous! I think if i don't go on bed rest before hand, i will be for sure done by Thanksgiving.

I had an Old Navy weekend with Shellie B and her friend between conference cessions and i had to get these for the boys. Probably more for Jared than for them but I think they are pretty adorable!

A long time ago I went for a girls afternoon with my good friend Shellie B. It included running errands and getting pedicures and having lunch at Ned's. The ladies at the pedicure place , once they found out I was having twins suggested this design. I love it!

This last weekend was my last travel trip. It was supposed to be to Disneyland but the Doc said that was out so we made an easy trip up to Snowflake. Where SURPRISE! Jareds mom and sisters threw me a baby shower last minute! Pictures and more details to come in another post.
Updates for pregnancy: My feet are starting to swell alot as well as my hands. I am getting carpal tunnel which really is no fun at all. The Amniotic fluid levels stayed the same as of the last appt. which is the best news possible. I still get contractions off and on but no bed rest yet. I did the one hour glucose test and my results were elevated so they sent me back for the 3 hour test. The lab had no early appt available so I decided to just go in anyway. Its a fasting test the second time around. And being pregnant that is difficult enough. However this time, they didn't get to me until 45 minutes after I got there. That and my techs said I was a hard stick (which means my veins are hard to find) I have it on good authority that my veins are awesome and super easy to find. So at the end of it I got stuck 5 times total and wasn't able to eat anything until 12:30pm. It made for a very long day!!
For some reason my ears are starting to ache. Jared thinks its because of the altitude change going up and back to Snowflake. Hopefully it will go away soon.
We put up more halloween decorations and its getting me pretty excited for Halloween. The thing is that I am trying to get as ready as I can be for Christmas since these boys will come sooner than that and there is lots to do. So I am excited for both holidays. Its messing with my head a little bit... :-)

How are you feeling?

I get asked this question a lot. As I am sure all pregnant women are asked this a lot.

I know I have been blessed to be able to truthfully say, " I'm doing pretty good!" Not too much pain or discomfort. I was still able to sleep pretty well. I could get the swelling in my feet to go down. Things like that.

Well this pregnancy is still going well but there have been some recent hiccups.

Baby B has extra fluid. The fluid level in his sac has been steadily on the rise. The normal maximum fluid level around 7, and as of Friday it was up to a 12. Baby A is still in the normal range however his sac fluid level has also increased.

Now what does this mean? Well a couple of questions come to mind. Is this twin to twin transfusion where one twin is getting way more nutrients than the other or stealing nutrients from the other? NO. The reason they ruled this out is because they are both still growing and still growing at the same rate.

Will I need to get an Amniocentesis(a big needle in to my uterus to remove some of the excess fluid)? NO. The reason being is that this is usually only a solution used when I am closer to delivery and want to buy a few days up to a week before preterm labor starts. Since I am just past the 25 week mark, if they started doing this now, they could be doing it anywhere from 2 times a week or once every other week. Not worth it.

What can I expect because of the extra fluid? I can expect a largely increased risk of pre-term labor. Why? Because there is extra fluid, my uterus is measuring much closer to the 40 week size than what I actually am at 25-26 weeks. My body is thinking that since I am that size then it should start the process of getting the babies out of me (even though they are not ready yet).

So how am I supposed to deal with this? I am not on bed rest but they expect me to relax and be off my feet as much as I can. The Dr even said that things like chores and making meals are now assigned to Jared as much as possible. (In a normal situation, its like a wife's dream come true but personally i wish it was under better circumstances). I am still able to work but I am supposed to take it easy and take breaks for deep breathing a such. I am also supposed to pay attention to the contractions I do have. How often and how long. i do feel them every now and then but most of the time I only notice it if I feel my belly and its rock hard.

I will be seeing the Perinatalogist again on Friday (I will have had an appointment a week for the past month and a half and there really isn't an end in sight). They will be checking the boys growth and development to make sure they are still on track. They will also check my fluid levels again to see if they have stayed the same (which is what we are hoping for) or if they have increased. Depending on how much they have increased will determine what happens next. Whether it be bed rest or a medicine regiment or just keep doing what I am doing.

What this means in lamans terms: I am full term uncomfortable a good chunk of the time. This weekend was the first time anything has been painful. A solution that I found actually works to relieve it, warm baths for about 30 minutes at a time. I know things could be worse so I am just grateful that I am able to still work for now. (Even if it does get pretty uncomfortable) I really appreciate the boys movements (which still doesn't actually hurt me yet and it totally makes me laugh at inopportune times....) and I love the time I get to spend with Jared.

This pregnancy has truly been a blessing and a miracle. Jared and I thank our Heavenly Father every day for our boys. So if getting them means some pain and some discomfort, it is a price I willingly pay and even more to have them in our lives!

I figured I was due to share an update on how things are going. I still give the same answer when people ask me "How are you doing?". " I'm doing pretty good!" It is still the truth because I am still out and about and my boys are still growing and moving like crazy. Life is genuinely great!

PS. Baby A is getting the hiccups more and more often. Its totally entertaining. :-D

Changes and not including diapers... yet (Part 1)

It's been awhile since I've posted anything so here and I've had this blog post saved as a draft for the past couple of weeks, so I am finally getting around to it. Here are some updates and fun things we have done recently.

Jared put together our changing tables. They look amazing. We haven't gotten to the cribs yet(because we need to paint before we put any more stuff in that room. Any suggestions on painting would be appreciated! ) but I know that since the cribs match the changing tables they will be perfect.

Jared is playing on a city softball team every thursday night. He plays 2 games. He says the team really isn't great but they are getting better and aren't getting slaughtered every game anymore. The games only last a few more weeks. By then I am sure he will be sad to seem them go. I sure miss him on thursday nights because he doesn't get done until I am already asleep but I know its been good for him so I try not to complain too much :-)

Since Jared is gone every thursday night, I decided to take my sister Rachel to the Savvy Shopper sale a week or so ago. My friend Kristin let me know about it and i will be forever grateful! I scored all kinds of swag for extremely cheap. I got a twins breastfeeding pillow for $25 that is normally $60-$90 . I also got a pregnancy sleeping pillow that wraps around you for $20. A bumbo seat for $10. And lots of books :-) I also got several more things but its a long list so I'll just leave it at that. I was only there for 2 hours but my feet were super swollen and I was exhausted by the end of it. The only down side is that I didn't get the twin packnplay for $100 that I loved, or 2 swings. I think those are the only major things we have left to get.

As for another major thing we are almost set on is a bigger family car. I know life will be difficult enough with 2 babies coming at the same time so I thought it would make it just a little easier if we had a bigger car. So we called up my cousin that buys cars at auction and told him to look for a toyota sienna. The next day he calls us back and says he has a 2010 with 13000 miles on it for under $20,000. My parents drove up to vegas to pick it up the next weekend. We love it! Its been a little bit of a pain to get it financed but as of Saturday it is official ours.

Now, anyone interested in buying a 2002 Dodge Stratus? Everything just got fixed on it and it runs great. Let me know if you are interested or know someone that would be interested.

I am sure there are other things I am missing but for now this is what you get. All the medical updates will come in a seperate post.

PS this is what was sitting on our back seat when we went to get our minivan. SO CUTE! Thanks Mom (and Dad) :-)

Pictures...

So I wont go into too much detail. This is the car seat/stroller we bought. It comes with 2 car seats, 2 car bases, and the double stroller. Bought it from babysupermarket.com, Great deals there. Check them out.

This is the crib we bought. Well we bought 2 cribs. It is a bundle deal from walmart. This month is the Baby Days event, and everything listed gets free shipping. For these 3 items, it was $184 total. PS for those of you that don't know, movable crib sides have all been re-called and stores are not allowed to sell cribs with movable sides. News to me, especially since all the advice i was getting was the movable side cribs were the best option. Oh well. I like these. The wood looks really nice and we went on other websites to see what they are selling this crib for and by itself its around $250 -$300. Sweet for walmart deals!

Next pictures are of the first outfits we have bought for our miracle boys. One comes with a beanie and has an applique of a sleeping bear with stars and a moon. The other is pinstriped and says "Thank Heavens for little boys" with a moon and booties.

We have bought a couple more outfits since then (and when I say 'We' i really mean Jared). Its been a ton of fun so far getting ready for these little dudes to make their appearance.
I had my monthly OB visit and everything is looking good. I have gained a total of 12 lbs since the beginning of this and my goal is to try and maintain under 40 for this whole process. (probably a pipe dream but at least i have a goal.) I have another Perinatalogist appt tomorrow to check my cervix to make sure it isn't shortening. I will do that every two weeks until I am 26 weeks. After that, if everything is fine then we will see if I will just see my OB or i will continue to see the Peri for high risk... Who knows what will happen. I am just happy that everything is smooth for now.

PS I made it to the half way point. As of yesterday I was 20 weeks. Crazy as it all is, I don't know if I can wait another 20 or so weeks for these beautiful boys to get here. Although I will be patient because I definitely don't want them getting here too early before their bodies are ready to be here. I am feeling them move much more often. More particularly Baby A. I think he moves the most. but I still feel baby B as well.
Anyway tootles until next time. If I have any more updates.

Well that picture is unmistakable!

Okay so it has been more than a full week since we learned so pretty important news. Our Heavenly Father has decided to entrust us with not one but 2 little souls on this earth. These souls with be pretty special indeed. Because I hear BOYs are always pretty special :-) And there was no denying that these two are boys!

I still can't get over how crazy this whole thing is. I hear a lot of advice and a lot of how hard it will be.

I won't deny that it will be hard but NOTHING can detract from the fact that I can't wait to meet them face to face.

Because we are lucky enough to be getting twins, I am lucky enough to see a Perinatalogist for the next several weeks. They have to make sure my cervix stays long enough to keep my babies in me till they are really ready to come out. So far everything looks good.

My Dr said "You are just having a LOVELY twin pregnancy." I love that he said that. It makes me feel so much better. I still worry because I don't feel like their movements are super defined yet. According to the ultrasound, they are more busy kicking each other that kicking me. I am sure once their space starts to run out, they will turn on me instead of each other.

The U/S tech couldn't get a clear picture of their hearts because they were moving way too much. when they started with checking my cervix, the first think we actually see is baby A's hand shoot out to be in the picture. The whole thing took about 2 hours. 2 hours of seeing our babies! and i didn't even have to have a full bladder! YEA for top of the line technology!

Some of the little stuff: I think baby A had the hiccups the other day. I fall asleep much easier on my right side but i sleep much more comfortably on my left. i usually move much when I sleep now. I still have lots of vivid dreams. My feet get really tired pretty quickly. i have been feeling nauseated lately. Just in general, 90% of my time has a twinge of discomfort.

We have only taken one Preggo profile Picture. This one is taken just after 18 weeks. I will have to make sure to take one on Wednesday as that marks my half-way point (gasp* 20 weeks is already here?!)

Next picture is a profile pic of Baby A. I thought I saved all the pictures from the U/S but apparently i only saved 2 and both are of Baby A. Next time will be of Baby B.

We like the names Logan Christopher and Jacob Crew. they are not set in stone but we really like those. My only hesitation is that Jacob is the #1 boy name for 2009. I don't love the idea of using such a popular name but I really do like the name Jacob. (My fav person in the Book of Mormon). Besides I am having a tough time coming up with something else that goes with Crew. Either way, we have a few months to decide.
Just to let you know, we have known it was twins since our first U/S at 5 weeks 1 day. We saw 2 little black sacs right away. they normally don't do an U/S that early but since they were way off on my original due date, they thought I was closer to 7-8 weeks at that point. so we got to come back 2 weeks later to check viability. it was then that we saw both beans and their strong heartbeats. We even got to see the blood flow. WAY cool!
I am not one to keep secrets about myself. There is not really much that is too personal. if you have a question, I won't be awkward about answering it. Now knowing that, can you understand how hard it was keeping something like this to myself? i kept asking Jared to just tell people. But he got it in his head he wanted to wait until we knew what we were having before we told anyone. I do have to admit that it was pretty fun hearing/seeing all the shocked reactions we got in making that announcement.
It is much more real to me now that everyone knows. We bought our cribs and stroller and car seats this weekend. We found some amazing deals! I'll post about them later.
So to sum up, JARED AND JOANNA ARE HAVING TWIN BOYS! i still get a kick out of saying that :-D

In just a few more hours....

What is funny, is that i thought of the title of this post and as I was typing it out, the song "I'm getting Married in the morning" in My Fair Lady popped into my head because there is a line in that song that says " In just a few more hours, thats all the time you've got".

Anyway, totally random.

Today we find out what we are having. We have our appointment with the perinatologist at 12:45 today and hopefully not long after that we will know what flavor of bean is growing inside me.

Can I tell you I am really excited to pictures and videos of the little bean again?! Hearing the heart beat and actually seeing a face. I just REALLY hope that being camera-shy is not a problem. I couldn't bare to wait any longer!

I am 18 weeks 2 days. I am already feeling uncomfortable and bending over is getting a little tricky. I really notice it when I shave my legs.

I don't have headaches nearly as often anymore. (WAHOO!)

I think I have been feeling more movement but it is really hard to differentiate between my own guts moving and the new addition moving. I know it will become really apparent soon but I wish I could be more excited about it now instead of always second-guessing myself...

Plan on seeing ultrasound pics when I post next and a profile preggo pic since I have yet to take one. I really haven't wanted to take that picture for some reason. Probably because I look way more preggo than I should but oh well. No way I can help that now.

We recently read that this week is the week babies can start hearing voices and noise. So Jared have made it a point to laugh A TON and that we will hum or sing when we can. That way the bean is used to our voices when he/she gets here.

Excitement and anxiousness and anticipation are pumping through my veins....
Just a few more hours....

A tooth for a tooth and a silver lining

It has been almost 4 years since I have had a cleaning. I know for a few of my friends that are either training to be dental hygenists or are already dental hygenists or are just obsessed with their teeth, are cringing and possibly rethinking your relationship with me.

But I must tell you that every dentist visit I have is followed by a migraine the size of texas that lasts a good long while. Getting my teeth worked on has never been my friend. I know that is not a great reason for letting my dental health slip but man i get enough headaches for no reason at all I just didn't want to get one on purpose.

Yesterday I caved. I needed to go. My gums were killing me. Not my teeth my gums.
After a 45 minute cleaning, they told me that a filling I received about 5 years ago wasn't done very well and left a space in my teeth that is causing stuff to get stuck in there and irritating my gums. What does this mean for me? A cap. With insurance, it will still cost over $400.

Why is it that I have to suffer and pay for a mistake of another dentist.....

Oh well. At least a migraine didn't come with this last visit as all I have to relieve the pain would be tylenol! My silver lining :-)

Weeks, Months, Trimesters...

So I have been documenting some of this very strange and new experience in my online journal but I figured it was a while since I posted here so I'll give an update. Probably for my own purposes rather than thinking that anyone really wants to know...

I am 15 weeks today. I have an appt this friday to hear the heartbeat again. the second best part of this appt is the referral for the level II ultrasound for two weeks after that to find out what we are having.... SO EXCITED! and yes we WILL (as long as the baby bean is in a cooperative mood) find out what we are having.

Funny story is that Jared has gone to all the baby gender predictor websites and feels pretty strongly we are adding a boy to our little family. I honestly don't feel swayed either way. I don't have a 'feeling' so I am not going to worry about it. I am just sure that this baby will be what it is supposed to be and I am completely satisfied with that. :-)

My jeans now don't fit very comfortably at all. I mostly wear my stretchy band capri's (that aren't actually maternity) and my uber comfy summer dresses from walmart. I think I will soon have to get my sister's tub of maternity clothes... (its funny cause I offered to store it at my house a week or two after I found out but hadn't told anyone yet...)

Jared says I now have a Santa belly. It rumbles when I laugh really hard which in turn makes him laugh harder and makes me laugh harder... its a vicious cycle :-)

I was one of those people that generally had fairly long, complex dreams for most of my life and I can even still remember quite a few of them from my childhood. Well now that I have pregnancy hormones coursing through my body, my dreams have intensified 10x fold! Literally almost every night I have at least one major dream. If it so happens that the first dream is intensely scary, and I wake up from it in the middle of the night, it is almost guaranteed that I will have another equally intense but just not scary dream after I fall back asleep. I even had the experience of waking from a dream and feeling as if I were going to freeze to death. It was to the point that my body felt rigid and I couldn't relax. I got up to get a thick blanket to put over my other blanket to help with the cold. (mind you that this is summer in the valley of AZ, where even at night it is 90 degrees outside and our thermostat is at its lowest at 77 degrees) As soon as I got the other blanket and was under the covers the real temperature set in and I realized my dream was set in a frozen tundra. Back here in reality I was actually kind of warm. Interesting what our minds can convince our bodies to believe isn't it?

As for something a little more normal, the sickness is over. There are still moments of gagging and deep breathing through my nose to calm the up-chuck reflex but all in all, I feel fairly back to normal.

New trimester upsets- Back aches and really tired shoulder and neck muscles. Headaches all the time. But no nausea and I am still sleeping really well. Naps elude me but I think that is what contributes to the good night sleeping. Also I am no longer waking up in the middle of the night with the urgent need to go to the bathroom. I think this is by far the best achievement.

Confession: It's not really real yet. Yes my body is changing fast but I am hoping that seeing the next ultrasound will make me believe that the bean growing in me is really mine and will be here soon. That and when I start buying a crib, pac-n-play, diapers etc.

Expecting? Expecting what?!

Father's day was eventful. Okay eventful is not the right word. More along the lines of INTERESTING!

Jared was on call (as usual it seems for holidays) and barely got home in time to go to my parents for dinner and dessert. Not all of my family was there but it was still a pretty fun evening. My sis Heather, the expert grill master, cooked up some hamburgers and I brought the pasta salad. No presents were exchanged because we planned on going out to dinner on Monday to celebrate our wonderful father since everyone was available then.

After dinner and dessert (which was magnificent cheesecake and butter cake and ice cream, we go all out!) My mom pulls up skype so that we can talk to my oldest sis Shelley and her fam in Washington. (this is where is gets really interesting.....)

During a slight lull in the conversation, I decided to ask a question (which I was suddenly super nervous about).....

"Would you guys be alright if you became Aunts and Uncles and Grandma and Grandpa again?"

Everyone kind of looks at me like I was talking gibberish, then a light slowly dawns on them :-D

JOANNA IS PREGNANT!!! Hugs and shocked faces abound. Everyone is excited.

The funniest part to all this, is that all while this is going on, Jared got a call a few minutes before i dropped the bomb. It was his mother, who previously knew about our exciting news. She said that all of his family was over for dinner at their house in Snowflake and this would be a great time to announce....(or his Dad would for us, I guess he was pretty excited :-) )

So while Jared is listening to his family scream about the good news (he thinks it was mostly Tawnee! Love you Tawnee!) I was listening to my family get super excited!

All in all it was a fantastic Father's Day. It was also especially fun calling all the other family members that weren't in attendance to these events the big news.

I think it was perfect timing as my sis Heather is moving this Friday to the far land called Virginia, and my sis Rachel is going to visit my other sis in Washington for a whole month starting this Wednesday. I give this caliber of news and they all leave me.... Oh well I still love them!

Detail of this jaw dropping news are as follows:

  • I am due January 5th, 2011
  • I will be 12 weeks along as of tomorrow.
  • We have heard and seen the heartbeat.
  • We find out what we are having the first week of August.

Jared and I couldn't be more excited!

And the award goes to.....

Congratulations are in order for a few people I know:

  • Jessie Fletcher for coming 2nd in her class in her 2nd marathon ever! Way to go Jessie!

  • Kristin and Taylor Williams, they just found out they are adding a boy to their clan! I don't know what Kristin will do with a boy but he sure will be loved!

  • Brindee and Dustin Rogers because they recently found out they are expecting Rogers baby #2 in 2011

  • Heather and Vance Smith for their beautiful little boy and that all the surgery went so well. Congrats on finally being able to bring him home this last weekend.

  • and the Award for biggest congrats goes to my hubby Jared for shaving off the beard for the first time in about a month! (it's possible this congratulations is more for me than for him but oh well...)You look so sexy I can hardly stand it :-) Love you babe!

Because it doesn't remind me

So I feel like writing a random post.

When I see the Union Pacific RR sign on the San Tan 202, I get the urge to play Monopoly.

When I see the Dublin st sign off of Val Vista (or isn't greenfield) I feel like if I turn on that street i will be back in Ireland.

When I see the Ithica Rd sign... I don't remember where, I have this urge to turn and see the island of the sirens and the blind prophet. That probably isn't all from the same story but that is what Ithica triggers in my imagination.

When I am headed to work, and as I round the Broadway curve.... I have incredibly strong pull to just take the airport exit and buy a ticket somewhere. This happens every morning. I mean really, Work? or spontaneously taking a plane somewhere (like here)? there really is no contest. Silly conscience.

I am in love with a band that was recently introduced to me by my Brother in law: Mumford and Sons. Current Favorite song: White Blank Page.

Recently had the epiphany that fish crackers are the bee's knees.

I am truly going to miss my sister and her beautiful family when they move to Virginia. It makes me sad to think they will be so far away. I will miss her super sweet little girls and their adorable smiles.

I already really miss my older sister and her awesome family that live in Washington. I loved spending time with them when they were here. Her kids are wonderful and super sweet. I admire how active and genuinely close they are as a family. I hope that my family can be like that.

It seems like I forget how wonderful it is to get in a pool on a hot summer day. Thanks Heather for going with me and reminding me :-)

I LOVE my bed and my pillows. It is a crime that I have to leave them so early every morning.

I find it slightly disconcerting that I have never seen a billboard being changed.

Its probable that an author that i really like, misconstrued a comment I posted on his blog and now finds me creepy. It makes me sad but I still really like his writing. I just won't comment anymore.

And to end on a happy note, My house was cool enough this morning that I didn't sweat after getting out of the shower! YEA for an AC that works!

So it's been awhile...

I know it has been a rather long time since I have posted anything but hey there are some out there that go 6 months in between so I just feel a little lazy, not a ton.

Anyway, I feel like there isn't much I can say about what has been happening in the Brimhall household.

So random updates are the way I am going to do this:

1. Jared made it to his 3 year mark at work and got his yearly merit increase. Yea for back pay and large paychecks.

2. Jared's parents came down for Mothers day and my SIL's birthday. Fun weekend! The girls got pedi's at a new place that wasn't very good. MIL got a manicure that looked fantastic :-) Dinner at Outback for the b-day celebration (got overcharged for crab but tasted wonderful and made up for it) Jared worked all day on Mother's day. Missed church and dinner and everything. I missed him especially since I wasn't feeling too good that day.

3.Went to Disneyland with super awesome friends the Williams. Wonderful trip with WONDERFUL food and fun and DESSERT. Will post pics later when they are downloaded. Probably gained 5 lbs... goal to start getting back in shape... still doing laundry to catch back up. Favorite new restaurant Portillo's Hot Dogs. www.portillos.com/portillos (couldn't get the hyperlink to work) If you are near Anaheim, do yourself a favor and check them out. They actually have a ton of locations so check them out anyway.

4. Got a stupid cold Monday. Didn't sleep well and felt like there were razorblades in my throat. Jared really loves me and set up the Humidifier and bought me cold medicine and cough drops. Back at work today and am really wishing that UOP granted better sick time accrual. (accrual is a funny word)

5. Reading a new book recommended by my BIL. The Darkness that comes before by R Scott Bakker. LOVE IT so far.

6. Won a giant box of nerds at a work training and it reminds me of being a kid and pounding a box in an hour. I love nerds.

7. We think there is a cockroach infestation somewhere in the walls of our kitchen. It's really gross and embarrassing to see the evil creatures hanging out on our ceiling light fixture. I HATE those bugs.

8. Got Jared sucked in to Minute to Win It and now he wants to host a challenge party. Anyone interested?

9. I am not looking forward to Summer and 100+ degree weather. I want it to be 80 degrees forever.

10. Jared got his AC fixed. $1200 later, it works wonderfully....

11. Looking forward to a ridiculously awesome trip with fantastic people for Memorial day to my Favorite place on earth. Yea for the Heaton Ranch!

i believe that is all I can update you on for now. (after watching Criminal Minds last night, Posting this is more for me than anyone else. I mean who really wants to know all this?)

Happy belated Mother's Day,Happy Memorial day in little over a week and HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM AND ASHER!

Sorry this is a little boring with no pics and no fun text, but the comp is being weird.... so more fun next time!

Experiments

For the past 2 weeks I set a goal for myself to not listen to the radio or my iPod in my car.

Why would I do crazy thing like that? Well a few things led to this decision.
1. Talking with my friend Dallin about how he has only been listening to church music for awhile. He said that when he does listen to the radio or something (due to someone else's choice) he doesn't feel happy or uplifted afterwards.
2. The lesson in RS a couple of weeks ago was about listening to the Holy Ghost. the teacher mentioned that we create our own noise that drowns out the Spirit. Things as simple as always having the TV or radio on for "background noise". We need time each day for quiet to contemplate.
3. Conference last week, there was a talk that struck me. I took away from it that I really have too much noise in my life. Do I ever have time to just sit and think?

My conclusion to all of this is that I have at least an hour everyday. That hour is spent in my car commuting to and from work. I don't have anything else pressing on my mind. I am alone and I can decide what i do with that time. Lately I have been more and more drawn away from the morning radio stations. They have not impressed me and I have felt like I shouldn't devote any time listening to what they have to say. I felt like instead of having the radio on and 'tuning out' I would drive in silence instead. I gave myself a chance to THINK. One of my concerns was that I would have a hard time staying awake. (Since I am on the road at 5:15 am and sometimes I have a hard time waking up) However the benefits have really outweighed this concern.

Benefits that I have noticed:
1. I am much more awake in the morning and by the time I get to work I am ready to go. Before i was usually dragging for the first 15 minutes of being at work.
2. I have a chance to speak with my Father in Heaven with out feeling rushed in getting ready for work. I am also in a place that I have the choice to speak silently or out loud with out worrying about waking Jared up.
3. I am able to process feelings and ideas had the day before or during the day. I can think clearly without distraction.
4. My mind isn't clouded by the sometimes unsavory topics discussed by Morning Radio Talk shows. When i did listen to them even in background noise mode, it was stick with me the rest of my day and distract my thoughts.
5. I feel relaxed when I either get to work or when I get home at the end of the day. I have had my quiet time to think and unwind.

Today was the first time I turned on the radio on my way to work in 2 weeks. With in the first 5 minutes, I was annoyed because it was interfering with my contemplation. I turned it down and eventually turned it off. I have come to appreciate this time to myself. I will still listen to the radio sometimes. I still really LOVE to listen to music but it will no longer feel like I have to have it on for "background noise"

I realize this is a long post but I felt like this was something I wanted to share. I hope everyone gets a chance to feel this kind of peace each day. I know it has really helped me focus on what is important to me.

Happy Spring everyone!

Forget a dog I want a dragon!

Jared and I went to go see this movie this last weekend. Jared's older sister and her family were down in the valley for spring break and we all went to go see it.
LOVED IT!
The 3D was great! The plot and the characters were wonderful. Really funny and very well put together.
This is good for the whole family. I am pretty sure we will be adding this one to our collection (and we really have been limiting what we do get...)
Joanna gives this 2 big thumbs up!

LOST!

Have you seen this wicked awesome antenna ball? A REWARD to who ever can return it to me!

I bought a holiday pack of disney antenna balls and this one was my favorite. I was so excited for March to roll around to use it and not one week later, it gets swiped! Who could do such a thing?!?!

My schmoopie

Yesterday as of 12pm Jared and I have been married for 3 whole years. It was three years ago today that I woke up at 5:30am (after only sleeping 4 hours) so that my friend could come and do my hair. Then Jared picked me up to go to the Snowflake temple. We decided that we wanted to do an endowment session right before we got married. I am so grateful for that experience. Because there are a limited amount of seats, everyone in that session was family or a friend.

It was really windy that day. Beautiful weather as it usually is in Snowflake in March. We stayed at the Heritage Inn in the Presidential room. Beautiful room with a double Jacuzzi tub.

The next night we took the midnight flight to Florida to leave on our honeymoon cruise. What was supposed to be a 5 hour flight took more than 12. Lots of problems and time delays. We got stuck in Texas for a few hours in a couple different cities. We finally got to Florida (and after waiting an additional hour or so on the tarmac) we rush to get our luggage. Which didn't come. We missed our boat. Our luggage finally came a couple of hours later. So we went to the desk to figure out what we were going to do in Florida with no plans. The Airlines put us up in a nearby hotel and we flew home the next day. (On a different airline)

Our first Anniversary, we went on a cruise to make up for it. We went with my sister and her husband for their 5th anniversary. We decided to play it safe and leave from San Diego so there wouldn't be any chance of missing it due to flights. It was a blast.

Our second anniversary, we went on another shorter cruise with more family this time. Also for my sisters anniversary and my parents anniversary. We didn't go until May so for the actual day we kept it simple. We went to our favorite upscale restaurant, Alto. We went for a ride in a Gondola. It was wonderful!

This year, we aren't going out, we aren't planning a cruise (as of right now) but this year didn't disappoint. We bought a house instead. One thing that is sad is that Jared had to work the late shift and is on call this week. I decided to leave early from work and surprise him with lunch. The only problem is that by the time I called him on my way home, he was already in the car to go to work early. Instead of having a nice lunch together at home, we got fast food and didn't even have time to eat it in his car in the hospital parking lot. I went home and spent the rest of the day at home alone. Working and painting. (We are almost done!) He didn't get home until well after I went to bed. I can't complain though because I get to be with him for the rest of eternity and we will just go out to dinner another day!

Its hard to believe that we have been married for 3 years. and I love Jared so much. He has made my life better in every way. I am so excited for what life has in store for us!

The best Realtor EVER

I realized that in all my talk about the new house I never once mentioned our realtor. I need to give credit where credit is due.

Will Wright is a member of our ward and was also our realtor. He started this process with us so many months ago and never gave up on us. He worked long hours and saw tons of houses with us. Its is saying a lot since we don't have the easiest schedule to work with anyway. He always gave us his honest opinion and was up front about all the information we needed. I can't express my appreciation enough for him and all his work!

Count this as my shining testimonial. If you need a realtor, HE IS THE BEST!

See his website here or email him will@gotgilbert.com.

THANK YOU WILL!

Home sweet Home

Jared and I closed on a house. We are going to be Gilbert residents! The house I mentioned a couple of months ago is finally ours. We spent an hour last Friday signing the paperwork. ( I can't believe how many papers you have to sign to buy a house!) I am really excited to live closer to family and friends. But I am really sad to be leaving our friends and ward in Maricopa. We have decided to try and rent our house in Maricopa for the time being. So if any one is interested or knows someone who might be interested.... just email me.

We are planning on painting and cleaning this weekend. (Whoever wants to come help :-) ) The plan is possibly moving when the painting is done but if not then it will be the weekend after.

I am trying to pack everything during this week but I just can't get over how much STUFF we have. Don't tell Jared but I have been throwing out more of the things we just don't need to keep. I hope we have enough time to get everything ready. I will just be glad when we are all done and moved in!

So for paint we decided on a dark tan for the base color and in one room a dark chocolate accent wall. In the family room the accent walls will be a deep red. and the bedroom will be the chocolate with a light blue base color. It has been pretty fun discussing ideas with Jared and thinking about what the different rooms will look like. People say that if your can survive buying and decorating a house, then your marriage can survive anything. This process has had its hard moments but we have also had some great times!

I am looking forward to the next leg of our marriage!
Pictures to come....

Great day...

It's raining today

The rest of the weekend

Other than the movies we hung out with Jared's Cousins the Webbs and had dinner with them and the Masons. We love them. We are excited to be living closer to those friends so that when we stay up til 2:30 AM that we won't have to drive 45 minutes to get home. Soon....

We got some more packed in boxes. (No we haven't closed yet. We had to write a whole bunch of letters of intent. Apparently it isn't clear that having 2 W-2's in one year means I had 2 jobs...) The bank has to close by March 2nd at the very latest with out any penalties. So hopefully sooner but no guarantees... I am keeping my fingers crossed!

We got our taxes done and yea for the state refund this year that is bigger than what we have to pay for federal. Silly higher tax bracket since we both work but it could have been worse. I am grateful that it is done and we don't have to worry about finding all that paperwork after the move.

Monday was a Lost day. Literally. We finished the most recent season of lost and hooked up our computer to our tv to watch the new seasons episodes of lost on Hulu. Then we got to spend some time with Jared's sister and her family. They moved here recently and I am SO excited they are here. We introduced her to Chipotle and got some Cold stone afterwards. I wish I didn't have to go to bed so early because that meant we had to leave early but they live here now so we can go back and play games next weekend! We LOVE YOU GUYS!

Movies...I should get paid to be a consultant.

Friday we decided to get our playing out of the way. We did a double feature of the new movies "Valentines Day" and "Percy Jackson and the Olympians:The Lightning Thief". We are movie people and we do double features when ever it can work out that way. If we are lucky and can plan it right we try to have both movies start before 12pm because at AMC the tickets are $5. So $20 for 2 movies for 2 people is a pretty sweet date :-)

Review for Valentines Day:
It was pretty funny. I liked it overall. One scene is awkward and not because anything racy or dirty happens, it is just the context and the people in it. It has everything you can possible think of that could happen on Valentines day happen. Just a whole lot of stories happening, somehow all connected. I think it is funny that basically this was a movie to see how many A-listers could fit in the promotion. Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner were hilarious! The bloopers at the end really made the movie. (I have an addiction to Bloopers. i can never get enough :-) )

Review for Percy Jackson:
Pretty decent. DON"T READ THE BOOK BEFORE WATCHING THE MOVIE. It will just make you frustrated at the liberties they took with how the movie is done. Don't get be wrong the movie is entertaining and has some good scenes however I will never understand why they make changes to the plot when if they just tried a little bit to just follow the book they would have done so much better. I don't exactly know how they will do another one (which is their plan). The changes they did to this plot kind of make it difficult to set up the next book. But oh well. What ever. I have decided the movie that happens in my head when I am reading a book will ALWAYS be better than what movie producers can put on the silver screen. I know most of you will say, "Hello Joanna! You are just now realizing this? the movie is NEVER as good as the book". I guess I just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I want to see a GREAT movie based on a book. i think the Harry Potter movies did a fairly good job of this but since "they" hoped that Percy Jackson would be the next Harry Potter, they are SORELY misguided.

After you see the movie and if you like the concept, I would encourage you to read the series. it is fun and entertaining and has a MUCH better plot. P.S. another example of a great movie but even better books/plot = The Bourne Series. the books are freaking amazing. No joke after I finished reading them I said "These would make amazing movies.... wait they made movies and they are nothing like the books. DANG Movie Producers!"And i love the Bourne movies.....

Happy belated Valentines Day!

Well Happy Valentines Day a couple of days late. Jared and I got an extra long weekend this past weekend because I worked 4 ten hour days last week to get Friday off. And Jared normally works that schedule. We we got Friday through Monday to hang out together. It made up for the 4 days where both of our schedules were completely opposite. Me working early morning and Jared not getting home until I am already in bed makes for long days. Valentines Day was celebrated in pieces for us this year. We kept the whole thing under $20 each since we have a new house to prepare for. I love the flowers I got and the awesome V-Day Cards. (I got 2) One was funny and had a silly song recorded and a super sweet one and I loved both. I got Jared a book and some other “fun gifts” ;-) The best part of the whole weekend is that Jared only got called in once for just a few hours on Sunday. (I got to go to Turley Family dinner by myself) I really appreciated the time we got spend together! Saturday we stayed home all day, slept in and watched a little lost and boxed up some things and had a great dinner. I love my Jared with all my heart! I am glad he puts up with me when I am an emotional wreck and when I am silly and weird or when I just need a hug.

I hope you all enjoyed your holiday as much as we did. Happy Valentines Day!

What is in a name?

For Christmas as a stocking- stuffer I got a Magical Turtle Bowl. As seen below:

I have it set up at work. Jared actually bought this for me because I have been wanting a pet for so long. He got this before we bought turtles for our birthday.
Now I only need a name. Any suggestions?

Laughter is the best medicine

So I love my hubby. Lately the nightly ritual is that he watches the first 15 minutes of what ever 9pm show is starting (Usually Castle or Mentalist or CSI:NY) while I get ready for bed. Then he comes in to say prayers and read scriptures. Then he proceeds to be extremely silly and makes me laugh till I either cry or get the hiccups. If I do get the hiccups he laughs all the more hard (Apparently, my hiccuping is extremely funny to him and he can't control himself). So I end up turning off the light around 10 or 10:30 pm if i am lucky and fall asleep sometime after that.

Now 10pm doesn't sound too bad but man it is really wearing on me since I have to be AT work at 6 in the morning.

Even tho I am sleep deprived, I absolutely LOVE that my husband can make me laugh so hard any time of the day no matter what. Going to bed has been tremendously fun and funny for the past week or so and I LOVE IT!

Reminiscing with strangers

A line from comedian Steven Wright- " I like reminiscing with strangers" Its funny to think about and with a person that is fun and willing to be a little crazy then this situation could be awesome.

I recently found a couple of blogs from some friends from a time long past. These people remind me how much i actually lived in my head and how much I felt like I was smart.... that definitely is a long time past. Thinking about it, i still can't believe that they were friends with me and liked me. I am not of that same mental caliber. Every memory I have including these people are mentally charged with discussion and analysis. Taking things for face value was never acceptable. The relationships proved to be complicated and intriguing. Through the fates weave of threads we created our influence even if it was in our own little corner.

Now after catching up on blog posts and reading words that have flitted around my own mind, i remember that we were and are kindred spirits. That is why friendship evolved. That is why even if i didn't fit in with the group, I did with them and that was sufficient. The minor and major connections will always be there. i will always treasure the plans of world domination and exploration of the off blockbuster path movies.

I realize that this may not sound anything like me and some may be thinking, this isn't Joanna... but it once was and always will be in the right company. Certain people bring out characteristics of our sub-conscious. i liked that version of Joanna but know it is always better in moderation. Too much creates a detached Joanna that doesn't find happiness, just pleasure. The whole world doesn't live on that kind of fantasy and whim but i can definitely enjoy the ride when the tempest picks me up.

So THANK YOU dear friends for reminding me how lovely the written poetic word is and how it feels to let my soul fly with its melodies.

Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris, well know Child prodigy Doctor (Doogie Houser), womanizer suit wearing business man (Barney Stinson), and evil criminal mastermind (Dr. Horrible).

he became a main character on the post-Friends breakout show How I Met your mother as Barney Stinson complete with catchphrases such as "Legen- Wait for it....... dary" and "Suit UP!"

i recently had been addicted to the 45 min masterpiece (I LOVE JOSS WHEDON) Dr Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog and told my husband that NPH should sing on the show (like the other great musical episodes from Buffy and Scrubs) . Not 10 minutes later a commercial came on for HIMYM and said BARNEY SINGS FOR THE 100TH EPISODE!

It played last night and I wasn't disappointed. :-)

Home Sweet Home

So we are looking for a house. We want to move closer to town and closer to family. We also want to be closer to family when/if I get pregnant so that i won't be trapped in Maricopa 45 min from my sisters and mom. We have been looking for MONTHS now and in that time have put bids on LOTS of houses. The 2 we were most excited about and told a lot of people about, we recently found out that they are no longer options due to the current owners deciding not to sell. :-( But with the new year we started up a new search. We looked at several houses this last weekend and hit a very wide variety. 2 houses were super scary, so much so that in one of them we didn't even go upstairs for fear of falling through the floor with water damage. Another had lots of graffiti everywhere and stains of being egged recently. (Great neighborhood right?!) There were also a couple that were great and one that Jared was ready to buy on the spot. This is it below.

It is located near Power and Ray. It is a little more that we originally wanted to pay but is everything and more in what we were looking for. House hunting is stressful sometimes but it is always fun to think about a future in whatever house you are looking at right then. Where you would put the couch and where the computer will go and hopefully where will the nursery go that will make 3 am feedings easier. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one though. I really like it and I think would fit Jared and I perfectly.
